At Branches we do everything we can to stay focused on our purpose: to help everyone become spiritually fit. That may seem like a simple statement, but it has a powerful impact on how we function as an organization.
To begin with, our purpose gives us a razor-sharp focus on the needs of individuals and how to best serve them. We want Branches to be a place where people feel comfortable and accepted as well as challenged to be all they can for Jesus Christ. For those who partner with us we want them to believe that they are part of a winning team with a determination to change the world.
Our purpose is also our compass. It guides our actions and decisions, pointing us toward long term success based on sound Biblical principles. Clear purpose and a singular focus promote the unity necessary to keep us outwardly focused as we serve those who desperately need all the benefits of a Christ centered life.
We recognize that people need help, and that the Church has the answers to life’s greatest challenges and needs. That is why we try to stay focused on the impact that we can have on people’s spiritual well-being. This purpose is not something new, but is exactly what the Apostle Paul had in mind when he said, “We proclaim Him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.” (Colossians 1:28-29) It’s part of a sincere desire to help each and every person be in the best spiritual shape possible.
Spiritual fitness encompasses three dimensions: intimacy with God, community with believers, and influence with others. Of course, we realize that it is not enough to define spiritual fitness; we have to help more people take action. At Branches we want to make it easier for people to become involved in genuine Christian community, which is where we believe real life change happens. Our model is designed to help people take manageable steps in that direction.
Our purpose requires us to set ambitious goals. Clearly defined, measurable goals will cause us to continually improve and extend current activities, and at the same time seek God for new, innovative ideas that will be effective in an ever changing world.
